Use proof correction for essential corrections rather than major new content.

AvenSci expects manuscripts to meet scholarly, ethical and technical requirements appropriate to the publication type.
Editable source filesStructured manuscript files, editable tables and separate high-quality figures are preferred.
Transparent authorshipAuthorship changes after submission must be explained and may require contributor agreement.
Rights clearanceThird-party material must be identified and permissions supplied before final production.
Responsible citationsReferences should support the scholarly content, not manipulate citation indicators.
Before submission
Authors should ensure that the manuscript fits the agreed project, is complete enough for the relevant editorial stage and has been approved by all listed contributors.
Manuscript preparation
- Use a clear hierarchical heading structure.
- Provide an informative title and, where requested, an abstract and keywords.
- Define abbreviations at first use and use terminology consistently.
- Provide editable tables and high-quality figure files where possible.
- Use a consistent reference style throughout the manuscript.
- Identify equations, boxes, supplementary material and special layout requirements clearly.
Authorship and contributor information
List only individuals who meet appropriate authorship criteria for the work. Provide full names, affiliations and ORCID identifiers where available. Changes in authorship after submission must be explained and may require written agreement from affected contributors.
Originality and prior publication
Authors must disclose overlapping publications, preprints, repository versions, thesis material and any substantial reuse of previously published content. Duplicate publication and undisclosed redundant publication are not acceptable.
Figures, tables and permissions
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reuse third-party copyrighted material where permission is required. Sources and licence information must be supplied before final production.
Research integrity
Research involving humans, animals, identifiable personal information, regulated materials or other ethically sensitive work must comply with applicable standards and include appropriate statements where relevant.
References and citations
Citations must be relevant to the scholarly content and must not be added or removed for the purpose of manipulating citation metrics. Authors are responsible for reference accuracy.
Proofs
Proof correction is intended to identify production errors and essential corrections, not to introduce major new content. Authors should return corrections within the requested timeframe.
